2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission "Our mission is to offer help, hope and healing to the tired, discouraged, wounded, broken and often invisible or forgotten in our community." Background Value Statements: Who we are: We are broken people who have experienced the healing mercy of Jesus. What we do: Our desire is to introduce the healed to the wounded and the wounded to the Healer. How we do it: All of our efforts will be powered by prayer. We will focus our ministry on building relationships that will bring healing and transformation. We will be creative and aggressive in seeking opportunities for service. We will value individuals over objectives or programs. We will treat every person with dignity and respect. Every situation will be handled with both integrity and compassion. Our ministry staff will devote the vast amount of their time and resources to personal ministry. We will be good stewards of all resources available to us. All operations will be conducted in a moral, legal and ethical manner. This ministry will reflect a quality that is consistent with the God we serve. Impact One of the many stories of how COM impacts our community is the story that Dean Barham shared of Kyle, one of our deputies, whose wife died not long ago, a man who lays his life on the line each day for the people in this city, who told me that the holidays are always particularly sad now that his wife is no longer there. He also shared how he recently chose to adopt a young boy with no father and whose mother s addiction makes her unable to care for him. As I heard Kyle s heart that day, I was struck with how our law enforcement officers give of themselves every moment of the day, not just on the job. It s a simple story, not one of the more grave moments when we provide support at death notifications or do ride-alongs with officers. But I share this to remind all those who support this ministry: you are the ones who sent me into Kyle s office that day, just when he needed someone to pray for him. You helped him know that God is here this holiday season, even when he feels alone. What we do for Kyle and those in the Sheriff s Office, we do for leaders, caregivers of aging loved ones, and youth athletes all over the area. I long to continue doing this ministry, so I am personally asking if you or someone you know might sponsor us, to keep sending me into people s lives to serve God there. 3 Areas of Service Areas Served TN - Williamson Board Chair Statement I consider it both a privilege and an honor to serve as Chairman of the Board of Community Outreach Ministries (COM). COM's mission is to take hope to individuals in Williamson County who are hopeless. The four pillars of our ministry serve a universe of approximately 3,000 people, the majority of whom have no support system with any local church. Our board members are primarily responsible for seeing that the resources are always in place to enable our Senior Minister to continue sharing God's love with the people we serve. Most board members chair one of our committees, and all board members serve on at least one committee. We are blessed with active, involved believers on our board who are personally committed to our ministry. CEO Statement God has been good to Community Outreach Ministries! Doors of opportunity continue to swing open. We are daily seeing lives changed. Physical and financial resources surface on an ongoing basis. The ministry is growing beyond our dreams and visions! None of this would be possible without the support and partnership of people like you! Here are some updates and thumbnail sketches of some of the powerful ministry that you are a part of! (all names changed): "Bobby" was a teenager, excellent athlete and student at a local high school. One morning, burdened by this life, he chose death over life, committing suicide. We were there at the scene with his family shortly after his body was found. We were able to wrap our arms of love around them as they struggled with this unthinkable situation. "Sam" was killed in an accident while paragliding. He and his family had recently moved here to heal from the trauma of losing their son to a tragic car accident. I was sent to deliver this news to the wife and 2 remaining teenage children. We were there again to offer help, hope and healing in the midst of excruciating trauma. "Bill" was experiencing problems at work. He decided to end his life by jumping off the Natchez Trace Bridge, an approximately 165 foot fall. We were there to support the law enforcement officers on the scene and to coordinate the notification of his family. 3

4 Programs Programs Behind the Badge Description Our ongoing relationship with the Williamson County Sheriffs Office introduces us to law enforcement officers to insure specific hardships associated with protecting our community can be met with sensitivity. In serving as the liaison between the Sheriff s Office and other ministries, organized training, certification and oversight means those involved can effectively meet consistency and safety standards with inmate visits.we provide untold hours of personal support including regular presence at roll calls and more. COM is on-call 24/7 to respond to emergencies that need the crisis and emotional support that we are trained to offer. Victims of severe trauma are provided the very relief needed when it is most crucial. COM helps train over 300 volunteers every year who visit, provide spiritual counsel, conduct classes and worship services, and minister in other ways to the inmates. COM helps train, provide credentials and oversee all ministries that go on in the jail. Budget Population Served Adults,, A.F.F.I.R.M. Description Category Population Served A Friends and Family of Inmates Resource Ministry. Every week volunteers spend Saturdays and Sundays ministering to families of inmates as they wait long periods of time to visit their loved ones behind bars. Volunteers provide water, soft drinks, snacks, children's books, encouragement, and connection to resources to meet their various needs. Human Services Family-Based Services Offenders/Ex-offenders, Other Named Groups, Outside the Lines Description Through our Outside the Linesprogram, young athletes are trained to take the lessons of sports off the field to use in their daily lives and into community service projects. The goal is to challenge young athletes to focus on and to positively develop other parts of their lives "outside the lines" of their athletic careers. Weekly meetings provide inspirational, instructional, and motivational speakers. Budget Population Served,, 4

5 Breathe for Caregivers Description To help address the unique burdens of caregivers, our Breathe ministry provides a clearinghouse of information, resources and relationships to sustain them in the selfless and often exhausting service they are providing. Walking alongside churches and community organizations, COM provides a safe place to turn to for physical, emotional, and spiritual support. Budget Population Served,, Unleash Description Unleash is our effort to provide support, encouragement and tools for leaders in the business community and spiritual community to be the best version of themselves. Far too often leaders find themselves feeling isolated, fearful and as if they are unable to live up to their own best ideals. COM provides relationships, mentoring and training for leaders to excel in their character as well as their work. Community Outreach Ministries has been a clearinghouse for our participants when they need help with finances, family problems or other crises. Corky French makes himself available for weekly spiritual groups and for special counseling to give the participants solutions, encouragement and hope.
